A lecture series by Rev. Marvin Harada
Rev. Harada is a minister at the Orange County Buddhist Church in Anaheim, California.
|The engaging Rev. Marvin Harada will be the speaker for the lecture series, "The Sansei-ge," scheduled for October 5, 12, 19, and 26. The Sansei-ge or the Three Sacred Vows is from the Sukhavativyuha Sutra (also known as The Larger Sutra), the most important sutra of Shin Buddhism, the sutras themselves representing "the words of the Buddha." These vows were made by Amida Buddha, the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life, while he was still a bodhisattva or "buddha-to-be," and represent Amida's compassion for all sentient beings, including us today. Therefore these lectures will ultimately explore what our deepest concerns are as human beings.
These classes offer an excellent opportunity to learn not only about the unique Jodo Shinshu tradition, but also about the ancient and timeless teachings of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni upon which Jodo Shinshuand all Buddhist traditionsare based. Lectures are open to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike and will be held at West Covina Buddhist Temple (map) and will begin at 7:00 pm. Cost for the series of 4 lectures is $40. E-mail the temple or call the temple at (626) 913-0622 for more info or to register.
