About Rev. Harada's
"From Shakyamuni Buddha to Shinran:
An Introduction to Buddhism and Jodo Shinshu"

Rev. Harada is a minister at the Orange County Buddhist Church in Anaheim, California.

The engaging Rev. Marvin Harada will be the speaker for the lecture series, "From Shakyamuni Buddha to Shinran: An Introduction to Buddhism and Jodo Shinshu," scheduled for October 5, 12, 19, and November 2. These lectures offer a great opportunity to learn not only about the unique Jodo Shinshu tradition, but also about the ancient and timeless teachings of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni upon which Jodo Shinshu—and all Buddhist traditions—are based. Lectures are open to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike and will be held at West Covina Buddhist Temple (map) and will begin at 7:00 pm. Cost for the series of 4 lectures is $35. Rev. Harada was born and raised on his family’s farm in Ontario, Oregon. He attended the Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple in Ontario, Oregon, received his B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Oregon, an M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the Institute of Buddhist Studies and also an M.A. from Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan.

In Chicago, Rev. Harada studied under Rev. Gyomay Kubose at the Buddhist Temple of Chicago from 1980-1981. Following this, he studied in Kyoto, Japan from 1981 through 1986.

Im 1986, he was assigned to the Orange County Buddhist Church, where he has been ever since. Rev. Harada has a wife, Gail, a son, Riki (21) and a daughter, Keiko (19).
